The article describes the reaction of the US society to the crisis moments of international relations in 1938-1939. Analyzed by the press and US leaders of German aggression in Europe. In the American society of the 1920s - 1930s. on such a problem as awareness of the threat of war, two tendencies expressed by “isolationists”, on the one hand, and “internationalists,” on the other, fought. In this situation, the figure of US President Franklin Roosevelt, who paid great attention to both European and Far Eastern affairs, received particular influence.
