William Walton. «Five bagatelles». Cycle development and peculiarities of the compositional technique

The cycle for the classical guitar «The Five Bagatelles» of the English composer William Walton can rightly be considered one of his best chamber works. Being primarily a "symphony" composer, Walton thought of the guitar as an orchestra, which is reflected in the variety of timbres and acoustic effects used in the bagatelles. The fact that the bagatelles underwent a transformation into the suite for the symphony orchestra «Varii Capricii» in the composer's work, confirms the necessity for the detailed analysis of the cycle and compositional technique for a deeper understanding of the composition.
