Aim. The paper aims to analyse the role and importance of the motor system in successful sports performance. Materials and methods. The study involved 167 high level athletes from acyclic sports and 126 high level athletes from martial arts aged from 18 to 21 years. The following equipment and methods were used for the purpose of the study: SCHILLER Cardiovit AT-104 PC, force platform, AMP non-invasive blood analyzer, neural chronometer, Tanita body composition analyzer, Neurosoft, Kentavr computer system. Results. The analysis of statokinetic balance allowed to identify the changes of the center of pressure in the frontal and saggital planes as a result of changing fighting stances. In cyclic sports, the correlation between running performance and the starting position was found associated with increased frequency and acceleration of take off movements. The correlation between amplitude and frequency characteristics and skill levels was also found. Conclusion. The role of the motor system in athletic performance is changing due to the need for scientific justification of the load used, age features of morphological and functional adaptation and personalization.
