In modern philology, much attention is paid to the study of local supertexts, united around one or another toponym. Since supertexts are sometimes associated with cities that are significant for Russian literature and culture, it is important to establish what place this or that toponym occupies in the Russian language picture of the world. The purpose of this article was to study the peculiarities of the perception of the urbanonym “Lipetsk” by the Russian linguistic consciousness. Using the questionnaire method, the key features of the modern perception of this urbanonym by Russian speakers living in the city of Lipetsk were identified. Respondents were asked to name their reactions to the word “Lipetsk”, as well as to include an urbanonym in phrases of various types and in sentences. It is concluded that the perception of Lipetsk as a pleasant resort city, typical for the texts of the 19th century, is currently being replaced by an ambivalent attitude towards this city. On the one hand, it appears both in the texts of modern writers and in the questionnaires received as an industrial city difficult to live in, on the other hand, the perception of Lipetsk by the majority of respondents remains positive. The results obtained have a certain theoretical value (because they allow us to draw conclusions about changes in the perception of Lipetsk by Russian speakers and the modern place of the urbanonym “Lipetsk” in the Russian language picture of the world), and practical significance, because they illustrate the degree of youth satisfaction with Lipetsk and make it possible to predict further changes in the perception of the urbanonym.
