In the study it's been found out that having alcohol withdrawal syndrome and delirium tremens opposite tendencies in relation to the concentration of serotonin in the blood and the platelet MAO activity are observed. When a person suffers from the withdrawal syndrome the serotonin content is lowered and the platelet MAO-B activity is reduced. In case of delirium tremens the content of serotonin and the platelet MAO-B activity are increased.
