Level of foreign students’ accultural stress in multicultural educational environment (on the example of Reshetnev University)

Statement of the problem. In the era of globalization, there is a growing trend in educational immigration. The factor determining successful education in Russian universities is the level of psychological, social and cultural adaptation to the conditions of a multicultural educational space. It is in a process to form a unified approach to the choice of diagnostic tools for assessing the stress level resulting from a person’s inadaptation as a figure of a sociocultural model. The purpose of the article is to assess the level of foreign studentsэ acculturation stress in the process of integration into a foreign cultural environment. The methodology of the research consists of the analysis of foreign students’ behavioral model in the stages of acculturation stress. The study group was first-, second- and third-year foreign students of the Reshetnev Siberian State University at the age of 17 to 21. Two questionnaires were chosen as a research method: Test of Personal Adjustment and Ways of Coping Behavior Questionnaire. Research results. Diagnostic questioning revealed a group of first-year students who are in a depressive stage, undergoing the process of modifying their life model, experiencing feelings of separation, loss of their status, and disorientation of their future. Half of the students successfully overcame the threshold of four stages of acculturation stress, being at the stage of stabilization of their position and relations in the concept of I-multicultural educational environment. Conclusion. The studied group of foreign students is assessed as a moderately adaptable group to stressful situations, being in psychological balance with a confident self-concept and positive dynamics of accepting a new society. Senior foreign students feel confident, calm, comfort unlike first-year students. The results can be used to develop methods of interaction with foreign students that increase the work efficiency in the process of acculturation and stress relief.
