Sustainable tourism development: a literary review of foreign scientific research

The conceptual apparatus of tourism is the important research directions for Russian and foreign scientists. At the same time, the study of the category "sustainability" in the field of tourism is still relevant. The author of the article reviews various approaches to understanding "sustainable tourism" and "sustainable tourism development", highlights the basic principles of sustainable tourism development and aspects of sustainability in tourism, formulated in the works of foreign researchers. At the same time, the study of even a small part of the works devoted to the formalization of ideas about these categories suggests that there are different approaches to understanding and further researching economic, social and environmental problems (both separately and collectively) of tourism development in specific territories to comply with the principles of sustainability. Even though the article is of an overview nature, the author believes that it will be useful for Russian researchers of this subject area in terms of understanding and developing existing approaches, as well as forming their own options for formalizing the concept of "sustainability" in relation to the development of the tourism sector of the territory.
