The Vadinsk hoard of kufic coins

This paper introduces a hoard of kufic coins discovered in the vicinity of the Vadinsk village, Penza region into scientific discourse. It publishes the list of all coins in the hoard and analyzes their dynastic, geographical and chronological distribution. Characteristic features that make this hoard similar to a number of assemblages from the Oka region of the second half of 970s have been singled out. The paper underlines importance of the hoard as a source for studying circulation and use of muslim coin silver in the Vad river basin where such finds have not been recorded before.
