The importance of the communicative approach in teaching foreign languages in modern practice (the case of German language)

The article examines the role of the communicative approach in the teaching of foreign languages, with a special focus on the study of the German language in higher education institutions in Russia. It is noted that the importance of mastering foreign languages for the development of professional competency in an international context is outlined, and key skills of communicative competence are presented: text comprehension, oral dialogue, spoken presentation, and written proficiency. The significance of professionally oriented language study and the role of student motivation in the learning process are identified. The authors point to the necessity of integrating pedagogical innovations and teacher enthusiasm to increase interest in studying foreign languages. The conclusion is drawn that the communicative approach is an effective means for achieving practical communicative competence among students of various disciplines.
