The article deals with the problem of formation of a system of support of teaching staff in the conditions of additional professional education. The external and internal factors of improving scientific and methodological work on the implementation of innovative processes in the field of education are updated; new functions of the teacher and educational deficits are determined. The scientific and theoretical substantiation of main directions of updating the training of pedagogical staff in the leading regional centers of additional professional education is supported by the description of the scientific study of the problem and the experience of the work of the Ryazan Institute of the Education Development (RIED). The conceptual ideas for defining the mission of the Institute as a center of continuous professional development are presented by the leading directions: focus on innovative development and design and research activities, cooperation and coordination with science, implementation of expert function, preservation of the unity of educational process.
