A brief overview of the currently available research on the life and work of a member of the Russian Imperial House, Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich, who was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in 1981, is presented. The need to generalize and comprehend the historiographical experience regarding the Grand Duke is caused, among other things, by the discussion of the possibility of his church-wide glorification. The article provides information about monographic studies, popular scientific and local history works, scientific conferences and individual articles dedicated to the Grand Duke, which can become the basis for subsequent thorough historiographical study. It shows both the topics to which much research attention has been paid, and those aspects of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich’s life and work that have been insufficiently studied. The research review is preceded by a brief outline of the multifaceted and diverse state, military and public activities of Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich.
