The paper describes the biography repertoire of a brilliant Vepsian taleteller F.S. Smirnov (1863-1938). The 54 texts recorded from him make up the 115th collection of the Karelian Research Centre’s Scientific Archives. Many of Smirnov’s fairy-tales were included in the «Vepsian Fairy-tales» volume published in 1941, which has now become a bibliographic rarity. The paper offers some additional information about the biography of the bearer of both Vepsian and Russian traditions.
