Verbalization of the “danger” concept in English economic media texts of crises times

The article deals with the study of lexical units indicating the notion of the concept of “danger” in English economic media space. To do the research it is appropriate to study the language of English economic media texts. The above mentioned approach provides us with an opportunity to structure the material and to analyze it in details. A research on the lexical means of verbalization was carried out with the help of multiple materials obtained from the English economic periodical “The Financial Times” issued in 2016. The information content of the concept was analyzed with help of “Longman” and “Macmillan” dictionaries. The lexical embodiment of the concept is derived from study of all analyzed material (70 English media texts). Moreover, the content of the concept “danger” is largely determined by the situational nature of economic discourse and its dependence on a particular discourse. The semantic-cognitive analysis, the definition analysis, and the method of synonymous series analysis were used in the process our research. As a result, cognitive features of the concept “danger” and their linguistic means of verbalization were defined. In conclusion, the results of the analysis conducted on the lexical-phraseological and semasiological levels show that the concept of “danger” is one of the key points inherent to the conceptual sphere of economic crisis.
