Tis article considers the translations of the books of the Old Testament done by Bishop Porphyrius (Uspensky). Te author considers the reasons why these translations were undertaken, their source materials, and some textual characteristics, merits, and defects. Te translations of Bishop Porphyrius are compared with the Synodal text and other translations of the Septuagint. A methodology for studying these translations is presented. Te article is an unpublished conference paper that was presented at the annual Teological Research Conference at St. Petersburg Teological Academy on October 7, 2010
