Types of preventive measures in criminal proceedings

Preventive measures play a significant role in the criminal process. Unlike other measures, they occupy the first place in importance and, ultimately, in the universality of the legal restrictions applied in the system of measures of criminal procedural coercion and are approaching full coverage of all persons accused or suspected of committing a crime. This article discusses the types of coercive measures in criminal proceedings. Article 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation provides for eight possible preventive measures that can be chosen by an inquirer, investigator or court in relation to the accused or suspect.
