Statement of the problem and purpose of the article. The article is devoted to the semantic structure and poetic form of one of the best stories of a famous novelist, winner of numerous Village Simenon literary prizes (K. Parte) Vil Vladimirovich Lipatov, who is now classified as a regional classic. The relevance of the research is primarily due to the need to continue working on the history of Russian literature of the Soviet period. Research results. The author of the article emphasizes that when working on the text of the story ...Even Before the War, V. Lipatov was aimed at creating a largely idyllic chronotope, which was already evident in the title of this literary work. In accordance with the goal, the novelist created the lexical form of the text, used the poetics of the proper names of the characters, updated the traditional portraiture technique for Russian prose, metrized the prose narrative, and offered rather unexpected associative fields. However, the powerfully manifested idyllic beginning was destroyed by the tragic subtext, broadcasting the motive of farewell in a special artistic format, primarily through the actualization of numerous contextual parallels and oppositions. The features of the revealed dialogue of the popular writer, who received the widest recognition during his lifetime, with his contemporaries allow us to insist on the uniqueness of the late Soviet period in the history of Russian literature. This is an era when artists belonging to different literary movements were united by one super task - the study of the Russian world of the era of cardinal civilizational changes, which intensified the search for an original artistic form. Conclusion. The literary experience of Vil Lipatov proves that the culminating period of his creative evolution is the time of liberation of Soviet literature from the social order, the time of gaining new prospects in understanding the essence of time.
