The problem of excess visual information and its influence on the understanding of art in the contemporary world is discussed. The importance of information technologies in accessing and distributing visual images is defined. New cultural phenomena that are re-considered in the situation of digital transformation of the society are noted. The influence of these tendencies on the educational standards is proved. The outcomes of a method to work with visual information in the context of teaching “History of Arts” course are analyzed. An attempt is made to understand the key issues of learning the history of arts both in class and independently. The conclusions on the impact of the modern tendencies and processes on student apprehension of the role, tasks and place of art in the modern culture space are made.
