N. P. Obnorsky's contribution to classical philology: the scientific importance of its articles

The article discusses the works of N. P. Obnorsky, the first head of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Perm State University, written by him in the period from 1896 to 1905 in the Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Brockhaus and Efron, from the point of view of their scientific value as his time, and for our days. An attempt is made to find out how independent were the conclusions made by Nikolai Petrovich, his methods of working with the sources used are analyzed.
