The article discusses the polemic between Vladimir Solovyov and Lev Lopatin that appeared after the publication of Soloviev’s “Theoretical philosophy”. The pathos of the Solovyov’s criticism of European metaphysics of the XVIIth century (first of all - Descartes and Leibnitz) was in strong connection with his perception of Russian Leibnitzianism. Solovyov was not satisfied with the neo-Leibnitzian apology of personality, considering it obsolete and philosophically unconvincing. He believed that philosophical justification of personality is possible on the way of absolute unity. Nevertheless, Solovyov and Lopatin, as metaphysically thinking philosophers, were united by criticism of sensationalism, empiricism and positivism.
