In this scientific article we are talking about of running on the development of the respiratory system. During the initial stages of running, amateur athletes often experience discomfort due to shortness of breath and a feeling of lack of air, which can lead to complete stopping. The physiological basis of this phenomenon lies in the increased oxygen demand of the working muscles during running. Contrary to popular belief, breathing is not solely dependent on the lungs as passive structures, but rather results from the active functioning of specific muscles. An active inhalation occurs due to the contraction of the diaphragm, a dome-shaped muscle that forms the lower boundary of the chest cavity, and the external intercostal muscles.
