The impact of the Syrian refugee factor on the electoral processes in Turkey in 2023-2024

The article examines the issue of the influence of Syrian refugees on the results of the general and municipal elections of 2023-2024 in Turkey. To this end, data on the number of refugees from Syria, the views of representatives of the government and the opposition on this issue are provided. The work also contains information about the position of the expert community, along with how Syrian refugees were portrayed in the Turkish media. As a result of the study, the authors find that the problem of Syrian refugees, being one of the key crisis points, still did not have a decisive impact on the results of two electoral cycles, and increased attention to it was due to the serious economic crisis in Turkey itself.
