The presented study is dedicated to the influence of the Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase gene polymorphism on the growth power of Holstein cow-heifers. Blood sample DNA testing showed that theSCD1gene is polymorphic for the population under the study. All possible genotypes were identified by PCR-RFLP method in the group of cow-heifers (258 animals).Frequency of alleles and genotypes was as follows: C - 0.61 and T - 0.39; СС - 38.4% (99 animals), CT - 45.7% (118 animals) and TT - 15.9% (41 animal). Animals with the SCD1TT genotype favourably differed in body weight from animals with SCD1CT and SCD1CC genotypes, which confirms the possibility of using the Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase gene as a candidate gene for the selection of young cattle.
