The article considers the mechanism of interaction of customary law with the dominant legal system of a large state, the peoples within which used the norms of customary law, on the example of relationships that developed between the customary law of the Siberian peoples and the law of the Russian Empire from the moment of their accession to the beginning of the 20th century. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the problem of mutual influence and interaction of customary legal systems and legislative systems of multinational powers has not been sufficiently developed in the scientific literature. Based on a number of scientific methods, primarily the neo-institutional approach, we have analyzed the influence of imperial law on the traditions of justice among the Siberian peoples. It is concluded that the integration of the two legal systems and further inclusion of customary law of the indigenous population of Siberia into the legal system of the Russian state took place.
