The influence of cadets' Individual psychological characteristics on their preferences in “taking a selfie”

Introduction. The paper describes the etymology of the concept “selfie”. The attitude to the phenomenon of “selfie” is not unambiguous: from the recognition of its new form of social interaction to attributing it to mental disorder. The purpose of the article is to experimentally identify the peculiarities of the influence of individual psychological characteristics of a person on preferences for taking selfie, cadets taken as an example. Materials and Methods. The experiment involved 110 students of 1-4 courses. To assess the differentiation of the level of claims and self-assessment, the survey was conducted according to the methods developd by O. I. Motkov, K. Rogers and R. Diamond, Leonhard-Shmishek, as well as the “Selfie” orientation questionnaire. Internet resources were examined. Results and Discussion. Under consideration are different aspects of self-assessment as one of the most important elements in the structure of a person and key element of “Self-Concept”. Basing on various psychological approaches to the essence of personal characteristics and new psychological elements the authors experimentally studied individual psychological features of cadets keen on taking a selfie. The indicators of the general positive development of cadets' personal self-assessment and some factors of an individual, i.e. peculiarities, were revealed. Conclusions. Individual psychological peculiarities of cadets taking a selfie and of those not keen on it are different, which is influenced by level of their self-esteem as well as willingness to make a display, projection, selectiveness, self-humiliation, assertiveness, psychoticism.
