Influence of the number of donations on the content of ferritin in the body of donor

The article presents the results of changes in the metabolism of iron in blood donors and its components, depending on the type and frequency of donations. Groups of donors with low ferritin levels were identified. An association between a decrease in serum ferritin and an increase in the frequency of donations has been confirmed. Factors for depletion of iron stores were identified in the group of donors - men with 10 or more blood donations and donors - women of mixed donations in the age group from 25 to 45 years. The data obtained indicate the advisability of determining serum ferritin in primary and regular donors of blood and its components.
