Impact of a complex herbal remedy on carbohydrate metabolism and morphofunctional parameters of the pancreas in experimental alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus

The study assesses the effect of dry extract of complex herbal remedy (Vaccinium myrtillus, Pentaphylloides fruticosa, Inula helenium, Rosa spp. and Zingiber officinale) on carbohydrate metabolism and morphofunctional parameters of the pancreas of Wistar rats with experimental alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. It has shown that intragastric administration of the studied dry extract at a dose of 300 mg/kg reduces the level of glucose and glycated hemoglobin in the blood and increases the glycogen content in the liver. This remedy limits the development of atrophic changes in the endocrine section of the pancreas. Thus, the studied dry extract of complex herbal remedy is a promising agent with hypoglycemic activity, which helps improve the reparation processes of endocrine cells of the pancreas.
