The purpose of the study: the study of the characteristics of smoking, depending on the personality characteristics of smokers. A total of 292 smokers were examined (144 men and 148 women aged 18 to 70 years). The study included the determination of the number of cigarettes smoked per day, the duration of smoking, the degree of nicotinic dependence (Fagerstrom test), and the questionnaire on a multifactorial personality questionnaire, "Adaptability." Results: The most frequently high values (more than 70 points) were determined on the scales: depression (44%), psychoasthenia (45%), psychopathy (25%), hypomania (22%). The number of cigarettes smoked per day was significantly higher among smokers with the presence of accentuations of character compared to those who did not have these features. Thus, in the presence of anxiety-depressive disorders, increased risk appetite (increase in the values of the scale of hypomania) and psychopathy, there are more cigarettes smoked per day, more often a high degree of nicotine dependence is formed and a more pronounced withdrawal syndrome occurs when smoking is quit.
