The Influence of Metacognitive Beliefs and Metacognitive Behavior Strategies on Students’ Psychological Health

The article provides a review of the literature on the problem of psychological health and metacognition. The aim of the empirical stage of the study is to identify the impact of metacognitive beliefs and strategies of metacognitive behavior on the psychological health of students of diff erent fi elds and levels of study. The study involved 80 undergraduate students (average age – 20.5 years) from the Faculty of Philology of the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in the fi elds of Linguistics (1st year) and Psychology (4th year). Research methods: MCQ-30 questionnaire of metacognitive beliefs, D. LaCoste’s self-assessment scale of metacognitive behavior strategies, A. Kozlov’s questionnaire “Individual model of psychological Health”. According to the results of the study, it was revealed that 1st-year students of a linguistic profi le with a low level of the total indicator of the MCQ-30 methodology have a higher level of psychological health in terms of strategic and prosocial vectors compared to respondents with medium and high levels.; 4th-year psychological profi le respondents with a low level in terms of the total indicator of D. LaCoste’s methodology have a higher level of psychological health in terms of the strategic vector compared to respondents with an average level; 4th-year psychological profi le respondents with a high level in terms of the total indicator of D. LaCoste’s methodology have a high level of psychological health in terms of strategic, intellectual and creative vectors in terms of compared to students with an average level in this indicator. A contradiction was revealed in this subgroup – for respondents with an average level of the total indicator according to D. LaCoste’s method, family well-being is more important than for respondents with a high level. It is concluded that the features of metacognitive beliefs and strategies of metacognitive behavior may determine the specifi cs of the individual model of psychological health of students. Further study of this issue may be important for the prevention of mental health disorders, which will have a positive impact on the health of students in general, their subjective well-being and quality of life during their studies at the university.
