The influence of Huang Zi’s vocal art songs on the development of Chinese vocal music

This article examines the role of the songs of Huang Zi (1914-1938) in the development of Chinese vocal music. It notes that during his short life, the composer produced some 100 works in a variety of genres, including vocal works, including a hymn to the national flag of the Republic of China, and symphonic works. A prominent composer and teacher, he is the founder of the first all-Chinese orchestra, the Shanghai Orchestra, and the founder of the system of modern music education in China. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the role of Huang Zi's songs in the development of Chinese vocal music. The subject of the study is the process of the influence of Huang Ziying's songs on the development of Chinese vocal music. The subject of the study is the vocal creativity of Huang Zi in the context of Chinese vocal art. The most famous vocal works of Huang Zi are analysed: «Song of Resistance against the Enemy», «Jianglip Point», «Nanxiangzi», «Flower is not a Flower». It is found that these works harmoniously combine traditional Western harmony, tonality and other musical elements with traditional Chinese musical culture to form the composer's unique musical style. It is shown that this synthesis not only enriched Chinese vocal music, but also contributed to its incorporation into the Western European cultural space. It is proved that these works have contributed to the development of Chinese art songs and gradually brought them to a high level of professional maturity through skilful compositional technique, ingenious creative concept, skilful transmission of mood and the characteristic spirit of classical Chinese culture.
