The impact of family on educational and career choice in Russia and Germany

The study deals with the specific nature of career and educational choice of young people. The author highlights several categories of reasons that motivate parents to influence the child’s decision: social and cultural, economic, mental ones. The paper reveals their characteristics and a range of their manifestations in modern life. The study determines the prerequisites for the development of this type of behavior. In addition, there is a relationship of the child’s labor and educational preferences with the characteristics of intra-family relations, family structure. The empirical part of the study presents the results of a survey of Russian youth on the subject matter, a survey of Russian and German experts. The author identifies a significant similarity in the intra-family relations of large city residents in the field of education and employment choices; several differences can be explained by the social and cultural and economic aspects.
