Listeriosis is a natural focal, zooanthropanous pathology, which causes great economic damage, which is determined by high mortality and costs for medical and preventive and quarantine measures. The causative agent of listeriosis is listeria (Listeria monocytogenes). This article describes the biochemical and cultural properties of the listeria of L. monocytogenes strain isolated from the sheep brain, which have typical, morphological, pathogenic and cultural-biochemical properties from the personal subsidiary farm of the Astrakhan region. The biological characteristics of the isolated cultures and strains obtained from other institutions were evaluated taking into account their persistent properties. The diagnostic significance of environmental factors has been determined. Water ecosystems - natural (rivers, lakes, seas) and anthropogenic (irrigation fields, sedimentation ponds, fish ponds, etc.) are not inferior to terrestrial ones due to the richness and diversity of the organisms that inhabit them. Bacteria, including potentially pathogenic ones, are full-fledged members of aquatic communities, being at the base of the trophic pyramid and interacting with various hydrobionts. Water, used for the needs of people and watering animals, is one of the main sources of infection with their listeriosis. Also, issues of survival of listeria in the aquatic environment of some Astrakhan water sources are considered. The chemical characteristics of water from the investigated water sources were studied. It is noted that the viability of listeria in the Astrakhan region does not depend on the temperature factor of the aquatic environment. However, the concentration of listeria in all water samples decreased, depending on the time and the end of the experiment, i.e. After 8 days it was less than 0.01 thousand CFU / ml. The results of these studies can be recommended for use in veterinary laboratories, veterinary surveillance and in research institutions both for the diagnosis of diseases in animals and for the certification of products of animal origin and raw materials.
