Bride wars: between consumption and experience

Particular results of analytical sociological research aimed at the detecting the depth of negative trends spread in marriage and family scope of modern Russia are represented in the article. The content analysis of Bride Wars film is conducted to identify its transmittable marriage and family values, reproductive attitudes and gender stereotypes. This film was сhosen as a typical example of Western (and the Russian one made by this example) media production, which actively forms the typical demographic behaviour practices in our country. The article is broken into thematic sections. In the introduction the general foreshortening of research is designated, the structure of the chosen movie as typical in a certain genre is revealed. The following section is devoted to representation in the movie of ritual of a betrothal, and also the "male" and the "female" in it. In the following section through the appeal to the theories of a consumer society, feminity patterns are described. Further the interpretation of the wedding ceremony shown in the movie, explications installation of the family relations are offered. Conducted analysis as well as the fact of quite high popularity and the degree of acceptance of this film among Russian spectators allowed to make the definite conclusions about the current state of the traditional marriage institute in our country and the immediate prospects of its development. In particular, even the superficial adherence to certain patterns and stereotypes of marriage and family behaviour, shown in the film, can significantly enhance the trend of de-institutionalization of a traditional marriage in modern Russia.
