The author of the article makes an attempt to characterize the domestic ensemble practice of singing in the cultural space of sacred music of the late 20th early 21st centuries. Emphasizing the important role of two voice singing in ancient Russian spiritual songwriting, the author examines what was realized at the turn of the 20th 21st centuries. a unique turn of musical art towards the restoration of this tradition, which was almost completely lost at the end of the 17th century. A feature of the process of reviving the two voice practice of singing was also the fact that interest in the vocal duet was renewed in the field of academic sacred music in the works of outstanding composers of our time V. Dovgan, A. Pärt, A. Terteryan, A. Mikita, etc. The specifics of the interpretation of modern music for the vocal ensemble remains very little studied, which represents a very interesting field for research. Examples of sacred music with a wide range of content from liturgical samples to various genres of chamber vocal and symphonic music demonstrate the significance of this phenomenon for Russian culture.
