The article studies ontological foundations of the experience of awareness. Imagination and myth are considered as an experience, structure and form of expressing the process of self-affirmation of the mind. Interpretation of myth in the philosophy and the culture of modernity is anatomized. On the basis of the dialectical-phenomenological concepts of myth the author discusses the ontological path of constituting the reality of human experience. Imagination, just as myth, is not a mode of cognition. It is a form of self-expression of the Absolute impulse of Being for which myth is an authentic form of self-description.
