The results of a retrospective analysis of the external equivalent of neurological and psychiatric disease of literary characters in a number works of A.P. Chekhov. These syndromes have been recognized based on the literature descriptions of external picture ailments with modern positions with sufficient probability: neurasthenic with psychopathological phenomena, conversion-dissociative (hysterical), obsessive-compulsive (psychasthenic), manic-depressive.
