Issues of legal regulation of the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation are relevant for many reasons, the main of which is the insufficient regulation of certain aspects of the activities of ombudsmen in the current legislation and the undoubted importance of their functions for the state and society. Among the main gaps in the legal framework covering the activities of ombudsmen in Russia, the authors highlight the duality of the legal status of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation; lack of specificity in matters of interaction between ombudsmen of different levels among themselves, as well as with state bodies and local governments; insufficient clarity of the main directions of activity of these officials, etc. In this article, researchers have proposed ways to optimize the legal regulation of the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation and given their justification.
