The article analyzes the educational potential of classroom and extracurricular activities in the pedagogical heritage of the Pavlysh innovator V. A. Sukhomlinsky. It has been proven that at the present stage of development of the Russian education system, the importance of education is increasing. A transition is being made from the “school of study” model to the “school of education and training” model. 2023 - 105th anniversary of the birth of V.A. Sukhomlinsky, when the scientific and pedagogical community again turns to the invaluable humanistic theory and practice of V. A. Sukhomlinsky. The study identifies and characterizes the main directions for realizing the educational potential of classroom and extracurricular activities in the pedagogical heritage of V. A. Sukhomlinsky: orientation towards universal spiritual and moral values; the pupil is an active subject of the educational process; ethical education; labor education; doing Good for others; the word of the Teacher; beauty is a powerful source of moral purity, spiritual wealth... The article proves that Vasily Aleksandrovich returned such categories as conscience, shame, honesty and decency, generosity of soul, moral emotions to the theory of education. The characteristics of spiritual and moral values according to V. A. Sukhomlinsky, which are classified according to the following criteria: reflect universal human values; focus on human relationships; reflect the strategy of life choice; focus on marriage and family; associated with the physical and spiritual state of the individual; directed towards personal self-realization.
