Educational potential of the world around us lessons containing historical and social science material

Currently, there is an increase of interes to education, much attention is paid to the formation of citizenship, diligence, morality, patriotism, respect for the rights and freedoms of other citizens. One of the subjects of primary general education, which serves exactly these purposes, is "the World Around Us". A special role in this is assumed by the educational field "Social Studies", which contains historical and social science material. The historical and social science material not only forms students' interest in the past and present of their native country, promotes the education of love for the Motherland, respect for the history and culture of the peoples of Russia, but also has a moral impact on the personality of the child; contributes to the expansion of the social experience of the younger student, awareness of himself as a part of his country. When studying the content of the subject "The World Around Us", the task is to enrich the social experience of children, the experience of communicative interaction with others, the experience of mastering ethical norms. At these lessons, the basic moral values and norms of behavior are laid; the first experience of self-assessment and evaluation of the behavior of other people from the positions of good and evil appears; the child's communicative abilities develop, which allow him to integrate into the community; the ability to resolve conflict situations through dialogue is formed; elementary knowledge and skills for protecting his own health, safe behavior are acquired, and the formation of a person who is aware of himself as a part of society and a citizen of his Homeland begins. Thus, this course solves a significant task of socialization of the child. The article emphasizes the importance of educating students in the lessons of the surrounding world when studying historical topics of the course, draws attention to the predisposition of primary school age to the perception of spiritual and moral values, and also reveals some means and techniques by which it is possible to increase the educational potential of lessons.
