This article reveals the concept of "sensory development", which was proposed by foreign and domestic psychologists and educators. The role and features of the development of the sensory sphere of older preschoolers with mental retardation are also considered. Special attention is paid to the leading activity of preschool age - the game, on the basis of which the most effective means of correction is described, in our opinion, the didactic game.
