Statement of the problem. The article discusses the development of student's personality during his/her studies at the university. The purpose of the articleis to analyze personal and professional qualities of law enforcement university cadets in the context of a subject-developing approach and to determine personal education activities in the framework of university training. The research methodologyis based on the analysis of works by Russian and foreign authors on the subject-developing approach and personality development during the period of study at the university, the role of personal qualities in the professional competence of police officers. Among personal and professional qualities, special attention is paid to uncertainty tolerance, the requirements for which in the activities of police officers are contradictory due to the specifics of the profession. The results of an empirical study of students of a law school (N = 78) using the methodology for determining uncertainty tolerance (S. Badner) are presented. Research results. It was revealed that the vast majority of cadets and students of a law enforcement university are characterized by an average (73 %) and low (24 %) level of uncertainty tolerance, that indicates a tendency to perceive unusual and complex situations as more threatening than giving new opportunities. The greatest intolerance among employees is caused by the complexity and unsolvability of the task. Based on the theoretical and empirical study, measures of educational and extracurricular activities are proposed that allow development of the student personality during the period of university training. It is shown that the development of a wide repertoire of roles by cadets during training sessions, the development of professional acmeology, the implementation of contextual education on the basis of socially important institutions in the region, and the development of ethnocultural tolerance will make better use of the educational potential of staff training during their studies at the university. In conclusion, it is noted that the implementation of a subject-developing approach in the training of personnel for the internal affairs bodies will make it possible to develop the personal foundation of a professional and, as an outcome, to get employees who are thinking, responsible, moral, patriotic, personally healthy, ready to solve problems in the interests of society and the state.
