Origin and development of the discipline "Physical education" in higher educational institutions of Russia: historical aspect

The discipline "Physical culture and sport" in the higher institutions of Russia, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation on physical culture and sports, is the most important component of the integral development of the individual. Being one of the main components of the formation of a general culture and professional training of students, physical culture as a training course is included in the list of compulsory disciplines for study in educational institutions, regardless of the future specialty of students. In the federal target program "Development of physical culture and sports in the Russian Federation for 2006-2015-2020" special attention is paid to the formation of a responsible attitude of the younger generation, in particular students, to physical education and health. The article examines the history of the formation of physical culture as a compulsory discipline in higher educational institutions in the period from the 18th century to the present day. The features of teaching discipline in general educational institutions at the present stage are considered, and the role and place of sports in the system of higher education is highlighted.
