The article analyzes the question of innate knowledge in generative grammar and cognitive linguistics. Attention is focused on the confirmation of the thesis of innate knowledge expressed in the deep structure. This structure is characterized by the ability of everyone in the same direction to perceive, understand and convey knowledge within the framework of universal concepts. In generative grammar (N. Chomsky, G. Miller), innate knowledge is represented by creating a unified language system that exists in the human mind. In cognitive linguistics, the nature of language understanding is expressed in cases (C. Fillmore) and linguistic gestalts (G. Lakoff). These features confirm the hypothesis of the existence in human consciousness of innate universal concepts, schemes, mechanisms of cognition and implementation of language. These aspects contribute to people’s common understanding of each other.
