The aim of present study was carry out monitoring of livestock farms in the Republic of Tatarstan for the presence of retroviruses, namely the causative agent of bovine leukemia (BLV) and caprine arthritis encephalitis virus (CAEV). A total of 144 blood samples of cattle and 108 blood samples of goats from different livestock regions of the Republic of Tatarstan were examined by PCR and ELISA methods to detect BLV. The obtained divergent results of PCR and ELISA were associated with the peculiarities of the viral cycle of retroviruses, as well as the high sensitivity of this method. The lost is used for early diagnosis of the provirus, when antibodies have not been formed in the animal's body yet. Based on the results of the study, the most reliable and accurate diagnostic solution is a comprehensive early diagnosis of animal retroviruses, which would include the use of all the methods for detecting this disease described in the present article.
