In an era of continuous globalization and integration of labor and educational markets, it becomes especially important to prepare the younger generation for a conscious choice of profession. A balanced, well-thought-out solution within the framework of professional orientation is the key to successful life and high productivity in both work and personal development. The intensive development of international communications inevitably leads to an increase in the demand for professionals who speak foreign languages, and this pattern does not apply only to traditional professions such as translator or teacher of foreign languages, but also a multitude of related fields - international business, diplomacy, information technology, marketing and tourism, where language proficiency becomes a competitive advantage. The aim of the article is to consider the essence of pedagogical problem related to the choice of professional development trajectory by high school students, using as an example the professional focus on foreign languages. Theoretical aspects of professional self-determination of high school students, as well as practical approaches to the formation of their motivation and interest in professions requiring knowledge of foreign languages were considered.
