Foregrounding as a means of information actualization in island landscape portrayal

The article discusses the philological aspects of foregrounding and the application of the cognitive analysis framework to the study of foregrounding in a literary text. The object of study is foregrounding of island landscapes, the subject of analysis is the linguistic means of foregrounding. Within the scope of cognitive analysis the foregrounding of island landscapes is viewed in terms of the figure-ground correlation, with the former presented by the island and the latter comprised by the island material surrounding which comes into the author’s focus.
