Outbound and inbound tourism in Russia in the context of modern geopolitical realities: problems and prospects

The article discusses issues related to the state and prospect characteristics of outbound and inbound tourism development in Russia at the present stage. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign sources, the author substantiates that the Russian tourism industry, despite the discriminatory policy of sanctions against Russia pursued by unfriendly states, is realizing its potential in order to ensure comfortable rest and leisure for both domestic and foreign tourists. The author gives the analysis of the reasons that hinder the realization of existing opportunities, primarily in the fi eld of domestic tourism. The paper provides specifi c proposals for bringing the Russian tourism industry and service to a qualitatively new level. The author believes that the successful implementation of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality” will be a breakthrough for the industry and a worthy response to the current external threats and challenges from Western countries.
