The aim of the study is to reveal the regularities in the functioning of morphological means of expressing the semantics of presence and absence in the English and Chuvash languages. The scientific novelty consists in the fact that the specific productive means to express the semantics of presence and absence has been studied in a comparative aspect based on the English and Chuvash languages, both universal and unique to the considered diverse languages. These languages are geographically and genetically different. In the research, general and specific features of the semantics of presence and absence in the compared languages has been found, their structural-semantic invariants as well as their variant correspondences have been determined. As a result of the study, we proved that the English and Chuvash languages have similar and different affixation means to convey the semantics of presence and absence.
