In the process of communication a speaker influences his listener and encourages the listener in understanding his intention. The meaning that the speaker has in mind is not always the same as the objective meaning of the utterance. Rather frequently the same utterance may have multiple meanings that are situationally determined and formalized. In the process of communication the listener differentiates them by the intonation and context. The ability to feel and recognize emotional and expressive shades of utterance meanings, to select a desired response in a given situation, and to find the right intonation facilitates in communication and mutual understanding. A chosen response sets the tone, determines the atmosphere of the dialogue and its final outcome. For foreigners these meanings often come as incomprehensible and sometimes are rather unexpected, therefore, this problem should be addressed in the course of foreign students’ language training.
