The purpose of this article is to study the factors affecting the efficiency of the propeller shaft. Surveys of fishing freezer trawlers have been conducted. The achievement of maximum permissible values by the parameters of the technical condition of the deadwood device (for example, the gaps in deadwood bearings, the geometry of the outer surface of the propeller shaft lining) can occur in a fairly wide range of its operating time, and the need for repair of the device may arise after 1 thousand hours of operation. This situation is well illustrated by the difference in technical condition for the elements of the deadwood device and the propeller shaft.
