The article examines the interaction of a teacher and a student in the process of forming the need for self-education, caused by conceptual changes in the education system, a paradigm shift in education from knowledge to development. The paper indicates that the reorientation of education entails changes in the characteristics of education among students. In this regard, they are required to study in changing conditions, in conditions of uncertainty, multitasking, responsibly, consciously and independently approach the solution of diverse tasks during training. In other words, there is a need for self-education. The work places an important emphasis on the role of the teacher and his professional development as the determining factors of the formation of the student's need for self-education.
